NINAH'S DOWRY SYNOPSIS

At 20, Ninah is a veteran wife of 7 years and a mother of 3 who is stuck in an abusive relationship with no hope of change. When news of her gravely ill father reaches her, she disobeys her husband's orders not to go so she could speak her peace to the man who put her in bondage. After her father dies, Ninah refuses to return home and stays instead to run a small restaurant. When news reaches her husband that Ninah is pregnant, he comes to recover the dowry he paid or take home the woman he owns. By any means necessary.

ANURIN NWUNEMBOM (as Memfi)

AnurinAnurin caught the performing bug in High School and gave up the pursuit of Law to obtain a degree in Performing Arts at the University of Buea. He went on to Produce and Direct plays staged by the University Theater Troupe. Through workshops and hands on experience he developed Screenwriting and Film Production skills which he has put to the test as 2nd AD, Casting Director, Writer and Director of several shorts. On Ninah’s Dowry he was able to pull these skills together both in front of the camera as the villain, Memfi, and behind the camera as the Unit Production Manager.

MBUFUNG SEIKEH (as Ninah)

MbufungMbufung is a graduate of Linguistics at the University of Buea. As part of the University Theater troupe she performed in several productions. Since graduation she has appeared in several shorts and Ninah’s Dowry is her fourth feature and her first lead.

CRISTA EKA (as Clarise)

CristaEKA is a multitalented entertainer whose acting credits include three features and national print campaigns. She recently produced and directed her first short, Doormat, and looks forward to working regularly both in front of and behind the camera.

VICTOR VIYUOH - (WRITER, PRODUCER & DIRECTOR) - VictorNamed one of Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Independent Filmmakers to watch, Victor Viyuoh wrote and directed the short film MBOUTOUKOU which was filmed entirely in Cameroon, Africa. In one year on the circuit, Mboutoukou played at over 100 festivals including Venice in Italy, New Directors/New Films and Rotterdam. Beginning with its nomination for the 2002 Student Academy Awards, Mboutoukou won over 20 awards including Best Short at SXSW, Best Short at Urbanworld, and the Rights of the Child Award at the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival. Victor is an alumnus of USC’s School of Cinema-Television and IFP/LA’s Directors and Screenwriters labs.

ROLLAND AFFUOMBUE - (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) - Rolland Affuombue is a young and talented businessman whose main expertise is pharmaceuticals. He owns and operates, R A Pharma International Ltd (RAI LTD) which imports, exports, and distributes medical equipment and supplies in and out of Cameroon. Investing in Ninah’s Dowry is a way for him to diversify his holdings as well as help develop country’s fledgling film industry.

CHE HILAIRE - (PRODUCER) - CheCHE HILAIRE - (PRODUCER) - Hilaire started out as a member of drama clubs in secondary and high school and went on to feature in many plays with such illustrious playwrites and directors as Bate Bisong, Hilarius Ambe, Nyamdi Dobgima and our very own Anurin Nwunembum. Hilaire was a member of the Kola Nut Eaters troupe for 2 years.


DANIEL TAN - (PRODUCER) - Daniel Tan has made several short films after he graduated from California State University Northridge with a major in Film Theory. Since 2006, he has been working in the film industry specializing in Digital Cinema. Immediately after watching a cut of Ninah's Dowry, he joined the team. Ninah's Dowry is his first feature as a producer.

YIBAIN "ANCESTOR" EMILE AIME CHAH - (DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY) - EmileYibain Emile is an accomplished graphic artist whose work has been featured at several shows around the country. He has served as Illustrator for Study at the University of Buea. In film he has worked as a graphic artist, Set Designer, Arts Director, Producer and Director. But it’s his work as Cinematographer that has landed him work on features, nationally televised commercials and successful music videos.

JEDI (PRODUCTION SOUND) - JediTebo Njei is as comfortable writing and directing movies as he is singing songs, scoring movies and recording production sound. His directorial debut won the Special Jury Prize at the 2009 Fako Film Festival. He has served as sound engineer at Chillen Music Entertainment and he is currently developing the script for his debut feature.



ATABONG ELVIS FORBIN – (PROPS/SET DESIGN) - Although he is still an accounting student, Atabong’s passion for African movies has led him into Props and Set Design with an emphasis on African cultures. Ninah’s Dowry is his first feature.

WILLSTON MULUH – (MAKE-UP) - WillstonWillston fell in love with entertainment as a child and was co-founder of the short-lived band A.M. Legitime. He went on to study Film and TV production at the University College of Technology. In 2007, he interned at Les Films Terre Africaine. After that experience he focused on FX Makeup and Ninah’s Dowry is his first feature.
